
Position Overview
The Herdsmen Assistant is responsible for assisting the Herd Manager take care of the 650 cows while following protocols put in place by MTDF LLC. This also means running skid-steer, barn maintenance, and some calf work as well.
Essential Job Functions

A typical day will be 6:45 am to 4:00 pm. Must be able to work every other weekend and work a 50 to 60-hour week. Some after-hours calls will be required (a trip-charge will be allowed on a case by case situation).

Run skid-steer with attachments.

Perform barn/stall maintenance.

Able to follow all cattle/calf protocols put in place by MTDF LLC.

Able to treat/vaccinate, find sick or lame cows, move cows, heat detection, and assist in cow calving/birthing.

Some calf work will be required.

General chores/cleaning for a dairy operation.

Clean maternity pen drinkers and dry cow pen per protocols.

Some Milking may be required.
Non-essential Job Functions

Helping in other departments as needed (examples: help cover silage bunker, drive tractor/truck, & possibly others)
Requirements

A driver’s license is required.

Must self-motivated and a hard worker, on-time, and reliant.

Some Computer knowledge required, Herd Management software and Milking Equipment are computerized. (Will Train as needed.)

An agriculture and dairy cattle background is preferred, and must have a basic knowledge and passion in agriculture and animal care.

Must be a Team Player!

Must be able to lift 70 lbs.

Must have good communication skills and have attention to detail.

Spanish as a second language is a plus.
